A chatbot answers what you type, then forgets. Ask about training and you get a decent general answer. Ask again next week and it has no idea what you did in between.
Your coach starts from the other end. Every morning and every session arrives without you typing a word, along with what you were asked to do each day. When something changes, the plan changes.
Shaped on real sweat
The coach wasn’t written in an afternoon. The coach was shaped on months of a racer’s own training: every morning reading, every session, every argument about whether to ride. Each time the coach got something wrong, that’s where the work went.
Every change is tested first
Nothing about how the coach thinks changes on a hunch. A change is first run on real training moments, a short night, a missed day, a race week, answered the old way and the new way, and the answers are compared side by side. Only a change that does better reaches you.
The science coaches use
Periodisation, tapering, threshold work, recovery, fuelling: your coach knows the training science good coaches work from. The difference is where it’s applied: to your record, every day, not to a template.
No favourite method
Most coaches have a method. Some swear by lots of easy hours, some by threshold work, some by high intensity. Each suits some people and not others, because people respond to the same training in different ways. Your coach has no method to defend: your plan comes from how you’ve responded before, how you sleep, how much time you really have, and what you’ve said.
No ego
Ask why. Push back. Say you want the club ride on Saturday whatever happens. Your coach makes the call, explains it, and builds the best week around what you insist on. And when your coach gets you wrong, you’ll hear it said plainly, and the misread is noted for next time.
No rules that overrule your coach
Fixed rules sound safe: never train hard when ill, never 2 hard days in a row. But a rule doesn’t know it’s been 3 weeks since your last ride, or what your colds usually look like. Your coach does. And if something worries your coach, you’ll be told to see someone.
The app keeps the record. Your coach does the coaching.
